1. General information
The general objective of this subject is to provide students with the relevant theoretical knowledge and working techniques so that they can acquire and use the specific terminology and instrumental resources for the study of diatopic variation in the Hispanic field
The knowledge acquired about the development and current state of Spanish in America plays a relevant role in the context of Hispanic Philology studies. They also acquire an additional value because with them one learns to value the Spanish language in its international dimension, in its essential unity and also in the differentiating features of a geolectal nature
SDGS 4, 5, 10, 16, 17.
An advanced instrumental command of Spanish is required. It is necessary for non-native students to have at least a B2 level of Spanish.
2. Learning results
1. Ability to explain the origin of the varieties of Spanish spoken in America.
2. Knowledge and appreciation of the influence exerted by other languages (Amerindian, African...) on the Spanish spoken in America.
3. Identification of the varieties of American Spanish and their linguistic characteristics, at different levels of analysis.
4. Ability to identify and describe the characteristics of American Spanish in current oral and written texts, from different geographic areas.

4. Academic activities
4.1. General methodological presentation
Active and participatory methodology to develop a critical and reflective spirit. The theoretical classes will present the basic knowledge, which will be completed with the recommended readings. In the practical classes, exercises will be carried out to reinforce the acquired knowledge and the participation and critical reflection. Individual work will be carried out with the advice of the teacher . Self-learning and autonomous study are encouraged.
4.2- Learning activities
Lectures, group and individual reading and reflection, identification and explanation of the most representative features of the Spanish from America, individual work on American oral or written texts.
5. Assessment system
First call
a) Continuous assessment system
With a number of less than 20 students, the faculty will have the power to apply the following continuous assessment system: Test 1. Exercises: 20%. Practical exercises in the classroom.
Test 2. Activities: 80%. Theoretical-practical tasks of various types and of greater complexity than the exercises: theoretical questionnaire, analysis and commentary of texts on various aspects of the topics covered, presentations and work related to compulsory readings, etc.
b) global assessment test (to be held on the date set in the academic calendar)
Written test to demonstrate the theoretical and practical knowledge acquired throughout the term, according to the program of the subject , which will account for 80% of the grade. This 80% will be broken down as follows: 40% for the practical part and 40% for the theoretical part. The rest of the grade (20%) will be obtained by submitting a paper on the subject proposed by the teacher.

Global assessment test (to be held on the date set in the academic calendar)
Identical to the global evaluation test of the first call.
